Ebay Turbo 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I'm looking at this T72 or their T76 version as a possible replacement for my twin T3 .60/.48 turbos on my 3.9L V6 Fiero to simplify things a bit and improve dependability when I do the next round of upgrades and corrections (VVT camshaft to far advanced . I've heard the Ebay turbos have gotten much better and am fishing for proof poitive or to the contrary from anyone who might know.

Here is the car now, I didn't realize the cam was advanced so far in the parked position ~20 deg and will have to degree it in, still runs well. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Testing-with-without_680592.htm

I personally will never use an "ebay turbo".

The one I've had in hand had NOTHING that was interchangable with other turbos, so it would not be servicable if anything failed. The dimentions of everything were VERY different than what it said it was, and would not even make a good "mock-up" turbo.

It also started making some not very pleasant noises not long after being installed.

Stay away from ebay turbos.

Many of GM passenger cars and mini SUVs have this engine as an option from 06 although less so now due to the 3.6L DOHC. I couldn't get 59 set properly for DIS but that problem has since been solved by others so I'll be switching back to it.

That is and was true for some of the Ebay turbos, but it varies and apparently less so now. The two I looked at have been confirmed to have a rotating assembly that matches the Garrett wheel dimensions. Forcedfirebird has turbos that are characteristic of what you describe as far as not matching the specs it was advertised to have. One of the turbos I'm currently running has an aftermarket water cooled center housing and balanced compressor wheel from a reputable turbo retailer that has worked fine so far and bolted right up to the other Garrett original parts: compressor, turbine wheel and housing. The T76 has the best map match for my engine with the T72 and T70 as second and third best. I need to keep costs down given I plan to build a completely forged motor using chevy 283 H beams and an offset grind of the crank.

So far I've received a positive review from someone who has used some or all of these turbos.

CXR racing turbos I would not trust. Dont trust obx turbos either. I did buy a 25g turbo off ebay and I have been using it will good results. Have had it up to 25 psi. Its a mitsubishi heavy industries turbo. Same company that makes the 17c for our trucks. I trust that company.

Heeded your warning and went with a Garrett 60-1 BB turbo. Not enough history about the dependability of the new Ebay T series to take a chance on one for $500.
