Does code59 work on 1227808 3 Years, 4 Months ago

Hi guys, im not sure if you can help me or not, i've been working on getting the $59 code working on my car ... bit of a run down ...
its a straight 6 cylinder holden motor which has been converted to run on the delco 1227808 ecu and as far as all that goes its working fine. It uses a reluctor type distributor for the pickup and a single coil and ignition module to talk to the ecu. I plan to run the $59 code if possible so i can fit a turbo to the car and use all the nice features this code has.
now i have modified the 1227808 by way of a max232 comms board which solders onto the ecu and basically gives me a serial port on the side of the ecu which i can get 8192 baud data from ... the stock setup for this ecu only allows 160 baud ....
so once i have the ecu to this stage i can get data out of it using the $12 code which is the same as a 16183082 / 16206305 ecu (which from what i understand is supposed to be the same as my modified 1227808) .... anyway thats probably beside the point .... i guess it proves that the interface does work etc ....
i have installed a 3 bar map sensor, and i have been able to get the engine to start and run for a few seconds with a starter bin modified for my referance angle, idle rpms and after increasing the BPC.
so my question is: does anyone know if the 1227808 will work with the $59 code using tunerpro rt to log aldl data ?
i understand if you guys can't help me because this is an australian ecu and you may not have heard about it but i thought it can't hurt to ask!

One way to find out... try it.
Just a key-on test will tell you if you have data or not.
I'd be kinda surprised that it did... this would mean that the hardware layout internally was the same/similar.
Burn a bin, and give it a shot.

hey sammy when we ran $58 on the 808 in a vp commodore it didint like the DIS coilpack ignition and referance angle and would lock the timing and did what your car is doing idle fine untill est temp flag was reached then die but once i hex edited in some funny "max spark advance" and "max spark retard from ref" that i was told to do by someone on thirdgen she fired right up.so im thinking this tune doesnt like the 10degree reference angle that you need to run with the camira ignition module.set your dizzy to 0 degrees and set the tune back to 0referance angle and see what happens leave max advance and max retard stock too might not start to easy with 0 advance but least it ashould not stop if that was the problem
anyone on here ever change the referance angle to suit another car and had this problem and know a work around.

The "timing lock" problem is fixable, if you get it working that far.

i have tried it and i am not getting it to connect to tunerpro ... so does that mean its a wasted cause or what ? i really don't know much about the aldl settings in tunerpro because in the past i didn't know how to use it for that i usually used efilive

hey turbodig he changed the spark reference back too zero and set the dizzy to zero advance base setting and it now starts and runs till he turns it off can you help us change the code for the camira ignition module so we can get back to 10 degree initial advance for better start-up or even just let us know how to do it.while your at it some of us want to run it on our V6 holden commodores too I have had it running and to get it to run i had to hex edit the max advance and max retard with some strange settings to get it too work with the coilpack wasted spark ignition with reference angle of 69.96 i think reference angle. could you maybe do a workaround for that too or should we juststick with our hex edited settings seems to work ok like that.internally the ecu is supposidly the same as a 165 ecu just without the comms chip and our vn-vp commodores are wired up just like the 165 running $58 method I read of somewhere.

I think Paul fixed the reference angle/max retard settings in the last xdf... Paul?
So, just so I'm following you guys....
It starts and runs now, but no ALDL data?

yip starts runs forever timing is off for sure poping/slight backfire out exhaust running rough same as what happened when i first tried on the dis ignition I could advance the timing in one of the tables on the dis V6 and get it to run smoother havnt bothered with this one cause its the same as when i didnt have dis programmed properly came right when i fixed up the timing settings for v6 ran like a dream.it has a solid check engine light too we will start turning off MALF flags so we can find whats throwing the code once it runs smoother wouldnt be too healthy leaving it running like it is.the V6 had the same thing solid check engine light when it hits a temp to enable setting for something its not in limphome mode either on the v6 cause it runs so good even with the solid CEL no aldl yet it isnt a highspeed ecu but its had a special circuit board added with a max 232 chip on it to convert to highspeed aldl works with $12 VR bin and efilive for aldl logging sweet as he hasnt verified cable operation in tunerpro yet will be tomorrows task

Let me take a look at it the XDF and see if I fixed it. I need to get the latest one done and all the fixes everyone posted to it and release it. I need to talk to Mark about how TP handles the MSB and LSB with it doing plus or minus. I am pretty sure I have it setup incorrectly.

Paper-clip diag code check should tell you codes... no need to hunt-n-peck.
Temp related - would suspicion an o2 code, or a 44/45.
I need some details on your DIS. I suspect you'll need the same settings that the 2.8/3.1 DIS over here uses. That's just a guess, without details.
Also, if you have a link to the Max-232 mod, that might help.
if I remember right, your Aussie 160 baud had a 12v interface. Our ALDL cables convert from 5v ECM to +/-12, so I'm kinda wondering what you guys are running for cables, and how stuff is hooked up.
I don't see anything that would keep the thing from working. You should see a periodic "heartbeat" on the data line. F0 55 XX, or something similar. If that's happening, I'd suspect the problem lies in the cabling someplace.
It'd be interesting to see if this works, since it would imply that a '165 would be workable, too.
If it's running, we're pretty close. (Unless it were running on backup, but it doesn't sound like it is)
I don't have an '808 handy, or I'd plug it into the bench.
